About me

Dr Ahmed Albusoda is a London-based private gastroenterologist with specialist expertise in endoscopy, neurogastroenterology, gastrointestinal physiology, and abdominal ultrasound. He holds a consultant post at Barts Health NHS Trust and serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London.

He completed his PhD at the University of London with a focus on visceral pain hypersensitivity and was part of the prestigious Marie Curie Training Network in neurogastroenterology. In addition, he holds a postgraduate certificate in general medical ultrasound from King’s College London.

In his clinical practice, Dr Albusoda performs high-volume endoscopic procedures involving the oesophagus, stomach, and colon. He uses advanced, patient-friendly techniques such as transnasal gastroscopy and underwater colonoscopy to improve comfort and tolerance. He is also one of the few gastroenterologists in London formally trained in abdominal ultrasound, enabling real-time imaging as part of his diagnostic approach.

Dr Albusoda is actively involved in medical research and education. His published work includes studies on vagus nerve stimulation and pain modulation in irritable bowel syndrome. He is a regular speaker at international medical conferences and has been featured in media outlets such as The Guardian, ITV, and the Daily Mail.

Experience

I perform high-volume endoscopy of the oesophagus, stomach and colon every year. This helped me establish my technique to deliver high-quality and thorough examinations while keeping the discomfort to a minimum level. I use innovative techniques such as transnasal endoscopy and underwater colonoscopy to minimise discomfort.

My other passion is digestive ultrasound. During my training in Europe, I was trained to perform advanced ultrasound of the abdomen.

I am a firm believer that ultrasound is a part of the clinical examination in specialised gastroenterology clinic. I find it helpful to see live images of your liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and other organs. I find office ultrasound saves time and enriches my patients’ experience.
