Shaun Roberts

Senior Psychotherapist

BABCP, ISST

About me

I am Shaun Roberts, a highly experienced and accredited psychotherapist, with over 20 years of clinical practice spanning both NHS leadership roles and private practice.

My work has always been driven by a single aim: to help patients reclaim confidence, resilience, and peace of mind while navigating life’s emotional and medical challenges.

I am accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and certified with the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). This ensures that my practice is internationally recognised, evidence-based, and of the highest professional standard.

At LSDC Healthcare, I work closely with gastroenterologists, dietitians, and other specialists to deliver integrated mind–body care, particularly for patients living with chronic digestive disorders, IBS, IBD, reflux, and motility conditions.

  • 16 years in the NHS, where I held senior positions providing psychotherapy in specialist hospital and outpatient settings, often working alongside medical consultants to support patients with long-term physical health conditions.

  • Private practice since 2003, where I have supported clients with a broad spectrum of emotional, psychological, and medical challenges.

  • Recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, and Healix, I work with both self-pay and insured patients.

  • Experienced in clinical leadership, supervision, and teaching, contributing to the training of the next generation of psychotherapists.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy — University of Southampton, a centre of excellence in CBT training.

  • BABCP Accreditation, a hallmark of advanced CBT competence in the UK.

  • ISST Certification in Schema Therapy, specialist relational and long-term therapy for deep-seated emotional patterns.

  • Accredited EMDR Practitioner trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing for trauma and post-traumatic stress.

  • Ongoing training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based CBT, and Motivational Interviewing  ensuring a flexible, modern therapeutic toolkit.

Shaun’s expertise spans the most effective evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): The gold standard for anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, and health-related distress.

  • Schema Therapy: A deeper, longer-term therapy for entrenched patterns, relationship difficulties, and low self-esteem.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing): A highly effective, specialist treatment for trauma, PTSD, and distress linked to medical procedures.

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): Helps patients build resilience, psychological flexibility, and self-compassion.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): For stress reduction, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention.

At LSDC, Shaun plays a key role in our psychology and digestive health programme, supporting patients with:

  • IBS and motility-related anxiety

  • Chronic bloating and food avoidance patterns

  • Depression and anxiety linked to chronic illness

  • Sleep disturbances caused by gastrointestinal discomfort

  • Post-infectious trauma and flare management

By aligning psychotherapy with gastroenterology, dietetics, and lifestyle medicine, Shaun offers holistic care for mind and body — something rarely available in other private London clinics.

At LSDC Healthcare, Shaun focuses particularly on the intersection of psychological wellbeing and physical health, offering unique expertise in:

  • IBS and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders — gut-focused CBT, schema therapy, and stress management to reduce symptoms via the gut–brain axis.

  • Health Anxiety & Medical Trauma — including patients anxious about procedures such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, or past medical experiences.

  • Chronic Illness Adjustment — supporting patients with IBD, liver disease, metabolic conditions, and motility disorders.

  • Low Self-Esteem & Relationship Issues — linked to long-term health conditions or early life experiences.

  • Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress — from both medical and non-medical origins.

Shaun provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space, designed for reflection, growth, and recovery.

His approach is:

  • Collaborative: Therapy is a partnership, with patients actively shaping goals and methods.

  • Compassionate: Rooted in kindness and genuine understanding of patient struggles.

  • Adaptive: Short-term symptom-focused CBT where rapid relief is needed, or longer-term schema and EMDR therapy for deeper issues.

  • Integrated with medical care: Working alongside consultants and dietitians to ensure psychological therapy directly supports physical health and recovery.

  • Over 20 years’ clinical experience across NHS and private practice.

  • Dual expertise in both short-term (CBT) and long-term (Schema, EMDR) therapies.

  • Special focus on chronic health & gut disorders, making LSDC a UK leader in integrated psychology for digestive health.

  • Accredited by BABCP & ISST — ensuring world-class clinical quality.

FAQ — Clinical Psychotherapy, Anxiety & Psychological Wellbeing

Is Shaun Roberts available at LSDC Healthcare in London?

Yes. Shaun Roberts sees clients at LSDC Healthcare in Central London for clinical psychotherapy and psychological support.

What does a Clinical Psychotherapist do?

A clinical psychotherapist helps people understand and manage emotional and psychological difficulties through structured talking therapy. Sessions are confidential and tailored to your goals and needs.

What issues can psychotherapy help with?

Psychotherapy can help with anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma-related symptoms, relationship difficulties, burnout, self-esteem concerns, and coping with health-related changes.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to benefit from psychotherapy. Many people seek support for stress, overwhelm, difficult life events or patterns they want to change.

What happens in the first session?

The first session usually focuses on understanding what brings you to therapy, your goals, and what support would be most helpful. You’ll discuss options for how therapy can work and what a plan might look like.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies. Some people benefit from short-term focused therapy, while others choose longer-term work. Shaun will discuss what approach is most suitable after your initial assessment.

Is psychotherapy confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential. Confidentiality is only broken in specific circumstances where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where required by law, and this will be explained clearly.

Can I have therapy alongside medical treatment?

Yes. Psychotherapy can complement medical care, including support for chronic symptoms, health anxiety, adjustment to diagnosis, or recovery after illness or surgery.

Do you offer support for workplace stress and burnout?

Yes. Therapy can help with burnout, stress management, performance pressure and work-life boundaries, particularly for busy professionals and leaders.

Do you offer online sessions as well as in-person?

Yes. Where appropriate, sessions may be available in-person at LSDC Healthcare and via secure online consultation, depending on your preference and clinical suitability.

When should I seek urgent help instead of waiting for an appointment?

If you feel at immediate risk of harming yourself or others, or you are experiencing a mental health crisis, seek urgent help via emergency services or your local crisis team. Therapy appointments are not designed to replace emergency care.
