Professional background
Dr Tanwar is a distinguished medical practitioner who has earned certification on the GMC specialist register as a consultant in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Internal Medicine. He has successfully obtained his PhD from the esteemed UCL Institute for Liver & Digestive Health, which is a part of the Division of Medicine at University College London. In recognition of his exceptional academic achievements, Dr Tanwar has been appointed as an Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Institute for Liver & Digestive Health.

Career
Dr Tanwar is a highly accomplished medical professional who graduated from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 2001. Subsequently, he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and underwent specialist Gastroenterology training in various renowned medical centres across London, such as University College Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.
In 2009, during the penultimate year of his specialist registrar training, Dr Tanwar’s excellence was recognized when he was selected in an open national competition for the London Deanery Advanced Hepatology Fellowship. In 2014, he commenced his consultant post as a Gastroenterologist with a particular interest in HPB medicine and interventional endoscopy at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Dr Tanwar is also the ‘Chair of the Endoscopy User Group’ at The Holly, where he leads the endoscopy unit and ensures that patients receive safe, efficient, and effective care at all times. He has published over 35 articles on various subjects such as diagnostic testing, HPB medicine, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, anaemia, and gastrointestinal malignancy, in peer-reviewed international journals and textbooks.
Dr Tanwar is highly skilled in performing complex endoscopic procedures and has the largest experience in the UK of endoscopic stenting as a non-operative intervention for symptomatic gallbladder disease (endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting- ETGS). He has also performed several ‘first in the UK’ endoscopic procedures using pioneering techniques. Alongside his expertise in non-invasive testing, Dr Tanwar’s proficiency in a broad range of complex endoscopic procedures makes him an exceptional and highly sought-after medical professional.
Outside of Work
Dr Tanwar, a distinguished medical practitioner, resides in North East London with his wife, a paediatrician, and their two young children. In his leisure time, Dr Tanwar enjoys cycling, gardening, indulging in DIY projects and attempting to maintain a regular exercise regime by visiting the gym.
