Private Endoscopic Ultrasound in Central London
At LSDC Healthcare, we offer fast access to private endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in Central London, performed by highly experienced consultant gastroenterologists.
Â
Located just minutes from Liverpool Street Station, our clinic combines world-class expertise with state-of-the-art technology to provide detailed imaging of the digestive tract and surrounding organs.
EUS is invaluable for assessing conditions that cannot be fully diagnosed with standard scans or endoscopy alone.
What Is Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)?
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) combines endoscopy with high-frequency ultrasound imaging. A flexible endoscope with a built-in ultrasound probe is passed into the oesophagus, stomach, or duodenum, giving detailed images of:
The digestive tract wall
Surrounding lymph nodes
The pancreas and bile ducts
Adjacent organs such as the liver
Â
EUS can also be combined with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to take samples for accurate diagnosis.
Who Might Need EUS?
Your consultant may recommend EUS if you have:
Suspected pancreatic cancer, cysts, or chronic pancreatitis
Unexplained bile duct obstruction or jaundice
Suspected oesophageal, stomach, or rectal cancer
Lymph node enlargement requiring assessment
A need for staging known gastrointestinal cancers
Suspicion of gallbladder disease not visible on ultrasound or MRI
What Conditions Can EUS Detect or Assess?
Pancreatic tumours, cysts, and chronic pancreatitis
Bile duct and gallbladder disorders
Oesophageal, gastric, and rectal cancers (staging and diagnosis)
Submucosal lesions (growths within the gut wall)
Lymph node involvement in cancer staging
Early gastrointestinal cancers where precise staging guides treatment decisions
What Happens During EUS?
Preparation:
You will fast for at least 6 hours before the test.
Medications such as blood thinners will be reviewed.
Procedure:
Performed under sedation for your comfort.
A flexible endoscope with an ultrasound probe is passed into the upper GI tract or rectum, depending on the area being examined.
If needed, fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is performed to obtain tissue samples.
The procedure usually takes 30–45 minutes.
Recovery:
After sedation, you will rest in recovery and need an escort home.
Most patients go home the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions — Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
What is EUS used for?
EUS provides detailed images of the digestive tract, pancreas, bile ducts, and surrounding organs. It is used to diagnose cancers, cysts, pancreatitis, and to stage tumours.
How do I prepare for EUS?
You must fast for at least 6 hours before the test. Your consultant will advise on medications such as blood thinners or diabetes tablets.
Is EUS painful?
No. EUS is performed under sedation, so you will be comfortable and relaxed. You may have a mild sore throat afterwards, which settles quickly.
How long does EUS take?
The procedure usually takes 30–45 minutes. Extra time is needed for admission and recovery after sedation.
Can EUS take biopsies?
Yes. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) can be performed during EUS to obtain tissue samples for histology.
When will I get my results?
Initial impressions are usually shared the same day. Biopsy results take 5–10 working days for laboratory analysis.
Can I go home the same day?
Yes. You will need someone to accompany you home if sedation is used. Most patients return home within a few hours.
Is EUS covered by insurance?
Yes. We are recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, Healix and most other insurers. Our admin team will arrange pre-authorisation if needed.
