Frequently Asked Questions — Liver Disease Management
What are the early signs of liver disease?
Fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and unexplained weight loss are common early signs. Jaundice (yellow eyes and skin) can occur in later stages.
What causes fatty liver disease?
Fatty liver disease may be caused by obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, or alcohol. It can progress to inflammation (NASH) and cirrhosis if untreated.
How is liver fibrosis measured?
We use non-invasive liver elastography (FibroScan) to measure stiffness, which reflects fibrosis. It avoids the need for liver biopsy in many cases.
Can liver disease be cured?
Some types, such as hepatitis C, can be cured with medication. Others can be managed long term with lifestyle changes, monitoring, and treatment.
Do I need a liver biopsy?
Not always. Many liver conditions can be assessed with elastography, bloods, and imaging. A biopsy is only done when essential for diagnosis.
Is liver disease management covered by insurance?
Yes. LSDC is recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, Healix and most other insurers.
