What is included in the LSDC Liver Health Package?
The Liver Health Package includes a liver ultrasound assessment and basic liver function blood tests. It is designed to assess liver structure, fatty change, focal abnormalities and blood test patterns that may need further review.
Who should book a private liver health check?
You may consider a liver health check if you have abnormal liver blood tests, suspected fatty liver, diabetes, high cholesterol, higher BMI, alcohol-related concerns, upper abdominal pain, family history of liver disease or ongoing medication use that needs monitoring.
Can ultrasound detect fatty liver?
Ultrasound can show features suggestive of fatty liver by assessing liver brightness and texture. It cannot always grade severity perfectly, so blood tests and clinical risk factors are also important.
Can an abdominal ultrasound check the gallbladder?
Yes. Abdominal ultrasound is commonly used to assess the gallbladder for gallstones, sludge, wall thickening, inflammation and bile duct dilatation.
What symptoms suggest I may need a gallbladder scan?
Common reasons include right upper abdominal pain, pain after fatty meals, nausea, bloating, indigestion, pain spreading to the back or shoulder, or abnormal liver blood tests suggesting possible bile duct involvement.
Does the liver package replace a gastroenterology consultation?
No. The package helps provide useful imaging and blood test information. If symptoms are complex, results are abnormal, or you need a diagnosis and treatment plan, a gastroenterology or hepatology consultation may be recommended.
Do I need to fast before a liver or gallbladder ultrasound?
You may be asked to fast before some abdominal scans, especially when the gallbladder is being assessed. The LSDC team will confirm preparation instructions when booking.
Can I book this if my GP found abnormal liver function tests?
Yes. Patients commonly book a liver health check after abnormal liver function tests. Bring any recent blood results, medication list and GP letters so the results can be interpreted in context.
